Chicago (Fall)

Chicago River with my Bestie Kelsey

For this trip we went to visit our bestest friends in the whole wide world Tony and Kelsey. They just moved out there in August 2018 and I continually campaign to have them move back because life just isn’t the same. We flew up in October on a Thursday evening and stayed till Sunday evening. The weather was brisk but the sun was warm. Upon arriving our first encounter was with the horrific traffic, but I’m sure all large cities have the same problem (note to self…do not land in a major city during rush hour).

PLAY.

Our first stop of the night was the Signature Room at the 95th Floor restaurant and lounge which was breath taking. We were lucky to sneak a table right by the window where we enjoyed some champagne with the twinkling view of the city from above. Most jaw dropping moment was when I went to the ladies room and found out one wall was floor to ceiling windows so you could view the Chicago skyline as you wash your hands. CRAZY!

Three Dots and a Dash

Later that night our friends took us to another neat bar called Three Dots and a Dash. Down a flight of stairs to the basement, this bar is a tiki lounge with lavish cocktails and exotic food. There we traded our classy champagne for a more fruity tropical drink which come in the most entertaining cups! At this bar you also have the option to order larger drinks to share with friends. When I mean large I mean LARGE…HUGE…and they don’t jip you on that liquor because all their drinks are very strong.

The next night we experienced Wriggleyville, this street just had bar after bar after bar after bar (never ending, no room for boredom). Our favorite spot had to be the piano bar. They had two musicians playing ANY song you requested…seriously any song. We would fill out a request slip and give it to them along with a dollar bill ($5 if you really wanted your song played asap) and they would just take turns signing the songs on the piano. How they were able to remember the lyrics of all those songs baffled me. Talented to say the least! This bar had so much too it, next to the piano section was a GIANT game room kind of like Dave and Busters except they had a batting cage too. Oh and did I tell you this was all on the SECOND floor of the bar?!?!! Yea pretty sweet. The whole place was a retro antiquey feel with sports/cubs all over it.

The Bean

Then we went to visit the infamous Bean. I’ve seen this bean in picture many times but boy they sure don’t do it justice. It was such an amazing breath taking structure. I had no idea inspired by liquid mercury, it was built between 2004 and 2006 and that it was a result of a design competition by Sir Anish Kapoor.

EAT.

I had a few “BEST” moments in Chicago and the first one was on day one when we went to Bub City Chicago and I ordered the Brisket Mac & Cheese. Talk about melt in your mouth! Ewwy Guwwey cheesy with bacon, jalapenos, and oh so tender brisket was the most perfect combination.

You can’t visit Chicago without having a deep dish pizza, we went to the famous Gino’s East and shared a large classic pepperoni deep dish and it was delish! We’re more of a thin/regular crust lovers, but man that deep dish was hardy and filling for sure.

On our last day in Chicago we spent our time at a Jags bar watching the Jacksonville Jaguars lose yet again another football game, but Zach and I won because we had the most breathtaking buffalo chicken sandwich ever. I still dream about that sandwich to this day. The chicken was fried to perfection and dunked in buffalo sauce so that every inch of chicken wasn’t left dry, all topped with 3 pickly pickles…ugh wow so so good. I also don’t know if this is a Chicago thing but their tatter tots are the BOMB!

Our friends definitely gave us a fun packed weekend and we can't wait to visit them again for St.Pats!
